ARCHER & KEDZIE REDESIGN

In late 2025, the Chicago Dept. of Transportation began construction on Archer Ave. and Kedzie Ave. in Brighton Park. The Southwest Collective participated in the city’s community engagement process starting in early 2022, along with other community-based organizations and the 11th, 12th, and 14th ward offices.

We are supportive of the goals of this project: reducing crashes and making it safer and more efficient for residents to walk, bike, and drive in Brighton Park. But we also acknowledge that residents have serious questions about why this is happening, what the project entails, and what happens next.

In the interest of an informed discussion about the merits of this project, we are sharing information from CDOT about the Archer & Kedzie redesign. Once construction wraps up, we advocate for monitoring the impact on safety, congestion, commerce, and air quality—and fixing what needs to be fixed.
